Girls are usually set to default, but boys are generally set to something like poop.

2: Japan Otaku Reviews25/06/11(Wed)12:31Yeahx70

>>1Are you psycho?

12: Japan Otaku Reviews25/06/11(Wed)12:36

>>1I can’t say anything to the person who named their rival in Pokémon Red “Ikikusut.”

3: Japan Otaku Reviews25/06/11(Wed)12:32Yeahx4

Thanks to Breath of Fire 5, I’ve been cursed and can no longer change my default name.

4: Japan Otaku Reviews25/06/11(Wed)12:32

If there are alternate names or real names that become clear when you play the story, I might choose those in the second playthrough.

5: Japan Otaku Reviews25/06/11(Wed)12:32Yeahx12

It’s troublesome to have to wait until you start without a default name.
It’s difficult to research without encountering spoilers so that it doesn’t overlap with other characters.

6: Japan Otaku Reviews25/06/11(Wed)12:32

Demon King

7: Japan Otaku Reviews25/06/11(Wed)12:33

I don’t want to name the handsome swordsman’s name Hidekazu = Farlens or something like that, so I won’t give it my own name…

8: Japan Otaku Reviews25/06/11(Wed)12:34

>>7I don’t think it feels that out of place if it’s in katakana, but I wonder why they end up combining hiragana and katakana.

9: Japan Otaku Reviews25/06/11(Wed)12:34

With a default name, there are times when they’ll call you by your name, you know.

10: Japan Otaku Reviews25/06/11(Wed)12:35

Since we play with nicknames, let’s make Arclight = Blue’s nickname “A-kun”, and the future does not reflect in those eyes…

11: Japan Otaku Reviews25/06/11(Wed)12:35Yeahx2

The alias I first used when I had amnesia felt nice, so even after I remembered my name, I kept using the alias.

>>82Sunekosuri…

86: Japan Otaku Reviews25/06/11(Wed)13:12Yeahx5

>>83It’s unfair that new characters are appearing since the Reiwa era…

15: Japan Otaku Reviews25/06/11(Wed)12:38

Back in those days when I could change to Suzaku with Sakurai’s voice… Now I can’t do it anymore…

16: Japan Otaku Reviews25/06/11(Wed)12:41Yeahx13

This dagger is called a dagger, isn’t it…?
I understand.
From now on, I will be called Garnet.

17: Japan Otaku Reviews25/06/11(Wed)12:42

If it’s Zico, then Masato, sometimes Shuji, and very occasionally Takumi.

18: Japan Otaku Reviews25/06/11(Wed)12:42Yeahx1

It’s fine if you change the name, but please don’t remove the unique names in the voice…

20: Japan Otaku Reviews25/06/11(Wed)12:43

>>18FF10 is too unnatural.

69: Japan Otaku Reviews25/06/11(Wed)13:07

>>20But Tidus is himself, after all.

127: Japan Otaku Reviews25/06/11(Wed)13:31Yeahx1

>>18Living and dying are two sides of the same coin.
Living and dying, it’s a journey among the stars.
There is heaven, there is earth, and there are people.
Each intersects, this is the gap.
Come and conquer.
That person’s name is you.

21: Japan Otaku Reviews25/06/11(Wed)12:43

You would name the female character after your favorite girl.

23: Japan Otaku Reviews25/06/11(Wed)12:44

I have a favorite name for the protagonist that I use in games, but when it comes to deciding on team names or partner names, I suddenly find myself troubled if I have to come up with two or three options…

24: Japan Otaku Reviews25/06/11(Wed)12:44

Default names are all lacking any sense of style.

27: Japan Otaku Reviews25/06/11(Wed)12:45Yeahx11

I don’t understand when they say to give the protagonist my name and project myself onto them…
The protagonist is the protagonist; I can’t become like him…

28: Japan Otaku Reviews25/06/11(Wed)12:45

The reason I gave up on Disgaea midway.

46: Japan Otaku Reviews25/06/11(Wed)12:56

>>28If it’s a general-purpose unit, a random name will be fine…
I didn’t think about it, so now I can’t tell who is who… There are some with the same name…

30: Japan Otaku Reviews25/06/11(Wed)12:46

Giving a name in hiragana in a world of katakana names stands out!!

31: Japan Otaku Reviews25/06/11(Wed)12:46

There are times when I use a name that can make the conversation strange when I restart after clearing it.
When you name your first Pokémon after your siblings, the people around you become unusually friendly.

32: Japan Otaku Reviews25/06/11(Wed)12:47

After I put my name in Dragon Quest 1 and it was weak, I stopped using my real name from then on.

33: Japan Otaku Reviews25/06/11(Wed)12:47

A game that doesn’t allow kanji in the name is a bad game.

39: Japan Otaku Reviews25/06/11(Wed)12:50

>>33Almost all Famicom games and many Super Famicom games are quite boldly labeled as bad games.

40: Japan Otaku Reviews25/06/11(Wed)12:52

>>39To be honest, I had been wondering why it had to be hiragana of all things back then…

44: Japan Otaku Reviews25/06/11(Wed)12:53Yeahx4

>>40The reason is that I can’t prepare a font for every single kanji…

47: Japan Otaku Reviews25/06/11(Wed)12:56

>>44Kanji fonts are still a high hurdle even now…
The line for whether a game can barely be practical is 4000 characters.

56: Japan Otaku Reviews25/06/11(Wed)13:01Yeahx3

>>40Dragon Quest 1 saved space to the extent that it used only 20 characters of katakana.
It was probably a remnant of that.

34: Japan Otaku Reviews25/06/11(Wed)12:47

In Suikoden, only the second one has a fixed name that is randomly decided, so there’s no confusion when naming.

35: Japan Otaku Reviews25/06/11(Wed)12:48

It’s sad that I have to give up entering my name because it can only be 4 or 5 characters long.

36: Japan Otaku Reviews25/06/11(Wed)12:48Yeahx4

I’ve made mistakes entering names in Ore no Shigoto.
The Masatoshi clan was explosively born.

38: Japan Otaku Reviews25/06/11(Wed)12:49

In Shin 2, you can choose your own name for the main character, but the meaning of the default name is too strong, so I went with the default name.
Since then, I’ve been leaving those with a default name as they are if they’re proper.
What’s annoying is that in social games, there are default names to some extent, but you have to name them to distinguish them from others.

42: Japan Otaku Reviews25/06/11(Wed)12:53Yeahx8

>>38I want the player name and character name to be separated.
You can use it as an account name and not include it in the work at all.

121: Japan Otaku Reviews25/06/11(Wed)13:28

>>38When set to the default name, it leans towards LAW…

41: Japan Otaku Reviews25/06/11(Wed)12:52

Sometimes when we get closer, there’s a game that calls me by a nickname, but I wonder what the purpose of that name is.

43: Japan Otaku Reviews25/06/11(Wed)12:53

I used to play a game that had really unnatural voices.
For example, when you change “Hanako” in the text “Hanako has come to help” to an original name, it can leave out just the name, like “has come to help.”

45: Japan Otaku Reviews25/06/11(Wed)12:55Yeahx2

>>43There were many such simulation games in the PS era.

48: Japan Otaku Reviews25/06/11(Wed)12:56

If it’s been turned into a manga or novel, I’ll take the name from there.

49: Japan Otaku Reviews25/06/11(Wed)12:57

Since Persona has always had protagonists with the same name, I was troubled about what to do with PQ.

50: Japan Otaku Reviews25/06/11(Wed)12:57

>RotoPlease enter your name.

51: Japan Otaku Reviews25/06/11(Wed)12:58

The name is set to Anonymous.

52: Japan Otaku Reviews25/06/11(Wed)12:59

I was thinking that since there were katakana fonts even during the FC era, they should let us use katakana.

54: Japan Otaku Reviews25/06/11(Wed)13:00Yeahx2

>>52If you investigate that, you might find that the katakana font wasn’t all complete in the work…

53: Japan Otaku Reviews25/06/11(Wed)12:59

Geki
Goushi
Dan
Boy
Mei
Brai
Since I was choosing from multiple female characters, I had trouble naming them.

112: Japan Otaku Reviews25/06/11(Wed)13:25Yeahx2

>>53Looks like you like dinosaurs.

55: Japan Otaku Reviews25/06/11(Wed)13:01Yeahx1

In the end, Dragon Quest didn’t have all the katakana sorted out until it entered the Super Famicom…

Tight pussy.

60: Japan Otaku Reviews25/06/11(Wed)13:03

When I was prototyping a novel game for the DS, I even created a program to delete unused characters from the font data and reorganize the character codes.
As a result, some characters in Katakana were missing.

61: Japan Otaku Reviews25/06/11(Wed)13:03

Isn’t it possible to create a nice voice with AI now?

62: Japan Otaku Reviews25/06/11(Wed)13:03

The tragedy that was set as the default name in MH3 resulted in a large number of…
Gave birth to HUNTER (one defeat)

68: Japan Otaku Reviews25/06/11(Wed)13:06

>>62Please give me honey.

63: Japan Otaku Reviews25/06/11(Wed)13:04

Speaking of Famicom, there was also the counting of voiced and semi-voiced sounds as a single character.

65: Japan Otaku Reviews25/06/11(Wed)13:05Yeahx1

>>63That’s probably because it saves a significant amount of font space if you separate the voiced sound marks instead of preparing individual hiragana and katakana characters with voiced sound marks.

64: Japan Otaku Reviews25/06/11(Wed)13:04Yeahx3

If it’s a full voice game, call me by the default name.
If you’re going to ask for a name, don’t include a voice.
No matter how you do it, it will end up being unnatural…

73: Japan Otaku Reviews25/06/11(Wed)13:07Yeahx1

>>64Tokimeki Memorial 2… EVS… Ugh, my head.

66: Japan Otaku Reviews25/06/11(Wed)13:05Yeahx1

When creating 8×8 dot characters with voicing marks included, it becomes simply difficult to read, so the expression of placing the voicing marks above the characters was standard.
In the name field, I had no choice but to add a diacritical mark next to it.

67: Japan Otaku Reviews25/06/11(Wed)13:06

My name is Captain Captain Hawk!

70: Japan Otaku Reviews25/06/11(Wed)13:07Yeahx2

In Star Ocean, if you leave it on default, it will call out your name when you get defeated in battle.
Since then, I made sure not to change from the default.

71: Japan Otaku Reviews25/06/11(Wed)13:07Yeahx2

The Atlas works all have a redeeming feeling, but the result is entirely up to Tatsuya Suo.

72: Japan Otaku Reviews25/06/11(Wed)13:07Yeahx4

Even if I were to do a role play, it doesn’t feel like placing the real me there; it’s more like that person becomes me, so I don’t even want to give myself a name.
I can’t explain it well, but…

79: Japan Otaku Reviews25/06/11(Wed)13:10Yeahx3

>>72I kind of understand.
It feels like giving a character name instead of my own name.

74: Japan Otaku Reviews25/06/11(Wed)13:08

I love the thoughtfulness of it reading with voice by default.

75: Japan Otaku Reviews25/06/11(Wed)13:08Yeahx2

Tidus is Tidus! I really started to feel that way after reading FFX-2.5…

76: Japan Otaku Reviews25/06/11(Wed)13:08

Even though I set it to default, they won’t call me with a voice…

78: Japan Otaku Reviews25/06/11(Wed)13:09

Ugh! You’re crying too much… Nina…

80: Japan Otaku Reviews25/06/11(Wed)13:10

When I was a child, I played as if the protagonist was myself, but before I knew it, that changed…

81: Japan Otaku Reviews25/06/11(Wed)13:10

FFDQ seems to have a default name, but when I input it, it wasn’t there, so I tried entering the name listed on the package or instruction manual, but it still doesn’t quite fit.
Bartz is good enough as Bartz…

84: Japan Otaku Reviews25/06/11(Wed)13:11Yeahx1

Shalom is only in hiragana and katakana, but the default name was “Tenka Taihei” and it could use kanji notation.
The Dragon Lord in Chrono Trigger was like that too.

85: Japan Otaku Reviews25/06/11(Wed)13:12Yeahx4

Please prepare a default name for the persona.
Even just the last name.

87: Japan Otaku Reviews25/06/11(Wed)13:14

I randomly named a character in Persona 5 and ended up with a name that overlaps with another character… that’s a risk too.

88: Japan Otaku Reviews25/06/11(Wed)13:15

Emblem Knight of the Bond Flame!
Please provide the Japanese text you would like translated.

89: Japan Otaku Reviews25/06/11(Wed)13:15Yeahx1

When I named it after the protagonist of the old work, they showed up normally too…

90: Japan Otaku Reviews25/06/11(Wed)13:15

After seeing all the Zack-related events in Wild Arms.
I went to Rename House and returned to Garrett, didn’t I?

96: Japan Otaku Reviews25/06/11(Wed)13:17

>>90What about Blood type 2?

91: Japan Otaku Reviews25/06/11(Wed)13:15

In the case of a character with a different gender from my own, it feels like it’s no longer a complete avatar but just naming an original character.
I want a default name even more now.

92: Japan Otaku Reviews25/06/11(Wed)13:16

I stopped using my real name to play after having a bad experience in Mother 3.

93: Japan Otaku Reviews25/06/11(Wed)13:17Yeahx1

😄 There is a default name.
😅 They don’t call me in voice.

97: Japan Otaku Reviews25/06/11(Wed)13:17

>>93😅 The default name gets called, but if I change it, they don’t call me anymore.

100: Japan Otaku Reviews25/06/11(Wed)13:18Yeahx4

>>97That can’t be helped.
Even if it’s forcibly summoned by mechanical synthesis, it would probably feel weird and make you feel sick.
It’s better than just calling me by the default name.

94: Japan Otaku Reviews25/06/11(Wed)13:17

Considering the need to avoid overlap, having no defaults is nothing but painful.

95: Japan Otaku Reviews25/06/11(Wed)13:17

I kind of don’t like it when the protagonist has the same name as a random villager, so I hope they take measures to avoid name overlaps…

98: Japan Otaku Reviews25/06/11(Wed)13:18

Recently, it has become quite common to name things related to official media or default settings.

99: Japan Otaku Reviews25/06/11(Wed)13:18

Abe Hiroshi and Nakama Yukie go.

101: Japan Otaku Reviews25/06/11(Wed)13:19

>>99I would hate it if Yukie Nakama betrayed me and became an enemy…

102: Japan Otaku Reviews25/06/11(Wed)13:20Yeahx3

It’s fine as long as there are no changes other than the protagonist being silent, with voice included.
It’s just a remnant of an era without voice.
It is sometimes cited as the only downside of the Live A Live remake.

103: Japan Otaku Reviews25/06/11(Wed)13:21

Captain Captain Hawk

104: Japan Otaku Reviews25/06/11(Wed)13:21

After all, the ode to twilight is great…

105: Japan Otaku Reviews25/06/11(Wed)13:22

107: Japan Otaku Reviews25/06/11(Wed)13:24Yeahx4

>>105That’s a name that takes input speed into account…

106: Japan Otaku Reviews25/06/11(Wed)13:22Yeahx3

If you prepare a default name and it remains as the default name, please reflect it in the voice.
Why do I have to be called things like “you” or “your”?

108: Japan Otaku Reviews25/06/11(Wed)13:24

109: Japan Otaku Reviews25/06/11(Wed)13:25

In Romancing SaGa 3, even with Thomas as the protagonist, it’s fine to keep it as default.
I was perplexed that the Sinon group wouldn’t call me Tom.

110: Japan Otaku Reviews25/06/11(Wed)13:25

111: Japan Otaku Reviews25/06/11(Wed)13:25

113: Japan Otaku Reviews25/06/11(Wed)13:25

I was amazed at how even NPCs could be changed in Wild Arms 2nd back then.

114: Japan Otaku Reviews25/06/11(Wed)13:25

I find it bothersome to think of a nickname.

116: Japan Otaku Reviews25/06/11(Wed)13:26

Generally, it is named “Kazunori.”
It’s not my name.
It’s not the name of a family, friend, acquaintance, or pet.
A person I really don’t know, not a character from anything.
Who is Kazunori?

119: Japan Otaku Reviews25/06/11(Wed)13:27

>>116Is it Satanophany?

120: Japan Otaku Reviews25/06/11(Wed)13:28

>>119Good Al is Kazunari.

117: Japan Otaku Reviews25/06/11(Wed)13:27

For a while, I made all the protagonists of romance games Guts from “Berserk.”

122: Japan Otaku Reviews25/06/11(Wed)13:29

What is it with being able to name items in Dragon Quest’s item bag…?

126: Japan Otaku Reviews25/06/11(Wed)13:31Yeahx1

>>122You can take out medicinal herbs from the anus, right?

130: Japan Otaku Reviews25/06/11(Wed)13:33Yeahx4

>>126A nameless one who has incurred the wrath of the naming god, Malinan.

128: Japan Otaku Reviews25/06/11(Wed)13:31Yeahx4

>>122I inserted the fishing rod into Bianca.

123: Japan Otaku Reviews25/06/11(Wed)13:30Yeahx1

You can freely choose a name in your favorite game, but…
If I have the same name as the companions I registered with this time,
“Since there are others with the same name, make it something else! A fake name is fine too.”
If you give the same name as the NPC in the town
“Why do you know about that guy? It’s complicated, so use a different name.”
There were also detailed variations in the lines.

124: Japan Otaku Reviews25/06/11(Wed)13:30

It’s troublesome that there seems to be a default name, but there isn’t.
It’s you, the protagonist of Secret of Mana 2.

125: Japan Otaku Reviews25/06/11(Wed)13:31Yeahx1

>>124Isn’t it Randy!?

129: Japan Otaku Reviews25/06/11(Wed)13:32

I no longer use the name of the girl I liked since Secret of Mana.

131: Japan Otaku Reviews25/06/11(Wed)13:34Yeahx2

I took out a dirty book from Amazon!

141: Japan Otaku Reviews25/06/11(Wed)13:42Yeahx1

I thought it only had value in terms of inserting or taking out things like in the anus or that area, but…
>>131This is kind of nice.

132: Japan Otaku Reviews25/06/11(Wed)13:34

In the wiz category, I had a job that just involved staying at the tavern and appraising, or I was just naming myself after someone who was only at the tavern.
The rest is just go with the flow.

133: Japan Otaku Reviews25/06/11(Wed)13:36

Create an event that fixes the name to “Orsted” halfway through, and distance it from the player’s control.
I feel like it would have been nice to have some kind of twist where we return to the name we chose ourselves in the end.

134: Japan Otaku Reviews25/06/11(Wed)13:36

137: Japan Otaku Reviews25/06/11(Wed)13:39

I wonder what the percentage of people using default names in Jiko is like.

138: Japan Otaku Reviews25/06/11(Wed)13:40

>>137I am in favor of not changing the basics.
Since the shota I named has become a goblin beyond old man status, it’s become the default for me.

140: Japan Otaku Reviews25/06/11(Wed)13:42

143: Japan Otaku Reviews25/06/11(Wed)13:46

I think the voice that calls the name when you die in SO1 from the thread image was turned off when you changed the name, right?
Is that probability?

144: Japan Otaku Reviews25/06/11(Wed)13:46Yeahx1

It might be good if Zico could freely enter his age and title.

145: Japan Otaku Reviews25/06/11(Wed)13:48

It’s nice that you can change the name in the settings during the game.

146: Japan Otaku Reviews25/06/11(Wed)13:52

Even though the silent protagonist can have their name changed, it feels like they only move along the predetermined path regardless of the choices made, so I think they should just have fixed dialogue and a fixed name.

It’s a story related to naming.

Kiiichi
Seiko
Kiryu
That would be “Don’t do that.”

FF1, 3, 11, and 14 have no default names, which was a problem.
I managed to make some connections through terms like Dissidia and remake, but…

It might be possible to call out any name with voice recognition like in Prospi or Tokimeki Memorial.

Tō and 100 Ninjas

It’s hard to bring up a topic when there’s no default name.

>>161I was too scared of metaphors and spoilers to look at the thread, but I wonder what they were calling the main character.

>>162Exclusively referred to as “Elderly.”

Someone who is passionate about slipping in dirty jokes while navigating around banned words.

I can’t help but think it’s crazy and doesn’t fit the world view to give my character a name like my own, so I wish they would just give a name that aligns with the game’s world from the start.
