The game software was recognized, but the screen is just so dark.
The GBA in my memory had a dark screen, but I don’t remember it being this dark, so it must have deteriorated a lot.
It’s something from 24 years ago.
If we’re going to play later, let’s just swap out the LCD.
>>1
*It’s not that easy.
Is it only the Game Boy that gets dimmer when the batteries run low?
By the way, what software was it?
Replacing an IPS LCD costs around 10,000 yen, so it’s a bit of a delicate line unless you’re really into it as a hobbyist.
As long as the foundation is alive, a complete revival is easy.
Since IPS LCDs and outer shells are being sold, the demand for GBA has been increasing.
It was actually too dark to see properly outdoors…
For now, I started Pokémon Emerald.
I have a vague memory of leaving it in a spot inside the house where sunlight hit, but it has almost no color. If I tilt it and strain my eyes, I can somewhat make it out, but it would not be an exaggeration to say it is nearly monochrome.
Rather, I must have treated it quite roughly, and even now I am amazed that it powers on, the LCD displays, and all the buttons work.

Here is a direct shot of the DS Lite for comparison.
You realize how hard it is to see games without backlighting, don’t you?
The first generation is a bit brighter without a backlight in the later model.
Emeralds are expensive now, right?
Even looking at it now on Advance SP, the front light is a bit dark, isn’t it?
It was seriously blinding.
I think it was impressive that I managed to play through it on the GBA back then, even though it was dark playing games like Circle of the Moon or with DS compatibility.
I’ve been around for 64 years since I was born.
It was tough to play our Sun SP or DS from certain angles, and it was hard to do it without a GBA…
>>17
But you can’t see the screen under the sun…
>>19
When I think about it that way, I realize how amazing the automatic adjustment of smartphones these days is.
Even if it’s blinding, it will fix itself so that I can see.
The excitement when the discovered hardware boots up is amazing, isn’t it?
What will you do, Julaiso? Fight, Bag, Pokémon, Run.
For now, I was able to enter the battle facility, but it’s so dark that it’s hard to see, and there is barely any sound.
Although I said the buttons are usable, it’s difficult to play the game properly because they are hard to press.
Still, it might be better that it’s Pokémon, which is not an action game where confirming functionality is crucial.
>>20
Is this the level restriction facility above Kinsetsu?
>>23
I took a quick shot of the first match in the battle arena just in case I want to reset.
Even the GBASP and early DS feel dark to today’s eyes.
I tried Pokémon Red as well, but it seems the GB software couldn’t be read, as only the startup screen sound played and it couldn’t boot up.
It’s meticulous to shoot exactly the same scene for comparison! It’s clear and good, though.
I was surprised by the darker backlight of the GBASP compared to memory.
It may have deteriorated.
>>26
If you peek from above, you’ll see that it’s actually a front light shining from the front, not from behind the screen.
One could say that it’s not so much that the screen is glowing, but rather that it is simply being illuminated, so it’s only natural that it may appear dark.
>>31
I checked the actual machine, and seriously, it’s for real.
No wonder IPS LCD replacements are becoming popular.
>>26
The Japanese version of the GBASP has a front light, so it is just normally dark.
The North American version of the SP has been changed to a backlight.
Of course, if you’re playing like this, it’s natural for parents to worry that it will hurt your eyes.
Memories of endlessly playing with the golden sun and blue sky.
>>28
The Blue Sky Outside is a masterpiece except that it only has one save slot.
>>28
In Blue Exorcist, since the female protagonist can enter the women’s bath, I was on the side of the male protagonist, but I ended up starting over from the beginning.
Let’s play Game Boy!
I realized again that the DS light is really bright.
Gyooin!
This is definitely not the original color.
It also responded to the GBA cable for GameCube.
I had left it alone for quite a while, but I’m relieved there are no signs of disconnection.
I wonder if I can do the linkage with Pokémon Colosseum since I have Emerald.
Kappei, you’re really something, aren’t you? It’s not like 🎵🎵🎵🎵jima is going to run away.
The GC side also responded properly, and Kappei came.
You take care of your belongings, huh…!
Connecting the GC and GBA is definitely romantic and nice, isn’t it?
If you have downloaded Pokémon Bank on 3DS, you can send Pokémon from Colosseum to Emerald, then send them to the fourth generation using the DS dual slot, transfer them to the fifth generation using Poké Shifter, send them to Pokémon Bank, and finally, with a January subscription to Pokémon Home, you can take them to the current games.
It’s been a while since I went to GBA Island, so here’s a bonus.
Proud of the interior and that’s it.
>>41
The mover and the bank are reserved!
I haven’t bought the Coliseum, but I’m looking forward to bringing Pokémon from the Coliseum.
>>43
Is it just me that gets hurt when I start up Animal Crossing after a long time?
My Pokemon Red has a dead internal battery, so I can play it but can’t save…
In Pokémon Colosseum, you can obtain Lugia each time you clear it, which is great.
I’ll lend you my Light Boy Advance.
It looks a bit like a urine crystal, but since the screen on the GBA is positioned lower, it appears even darker, so it’s pretty much like that.
>>47
By the way, the black part looked like a cover glass.
I have a memory that the original DS was also ridiculously dark.
The power of science is amazing.
I wonder if there are shells for the original DS as well.
The one we have still works, but the hinge…
I have the original Game Boy, but it’s not that rare.
>>51
The earliest internal circuit boards shortly after the release date are somewhat rare.
My original DS has come apart…
Memory is not reliable at all.
Old battery backup batteries seem to last about ten times longer than I expected.
It was a darkness that significantly reduced my eyesight at the time…
I’m playing the Devil Child Dark Book in SP.
The Heisei era is over…
>>58
Isn’t it that the Pokémon Red generation is just plain different?
Sometimes I feel nostalgic for the blue backlight of the GB Light.
As for the shape of handheld devices, I like the Advance the most.
It’s a GBA that has a screen like a GB.
Hasn’t it turned into vinegar syndrome?
I almost cried over the GBA game that was sticking out a little from the bottom of the DS.
So nostalgic.
I’ve been playing G Generation DS on my recently dug-up DS Lite, but it feels like the backlit LCD was already a thing by that time.
No problem at all.
Were you the one that the residents said had come back after 78 months?
If you’re going to use it now, the DS is good, right?
Oh, now I want to play Donkey Kong a little.
